Sulphur baths – Tbilisi
Chreli-Abano Sulphur Baths
The sulfur baths in the Abanotubani area, known as the ‘bath district’, are famous for their healing effects. They’re right by the Mtkvari river and are located in the heart of Old Tbilisi for easy access.
As soon as you see the building you will be mesmerised! It’s absolutely stunning, the architectural design and structure is one of a kind – very colourful and mosaic. The inside is just as beautiful as the exterior!
The sulphur water found in the historic area of Tbilisi flows to supply the sulfur baths. Chreli – Abano provides both hot and cold sulphur baths, containing beneficial sulphuric compounds like magnesium and potassium, which are known for improving skin health and effectively treating chronic conditions such as arthritis.

My Experience
I have visited the sulphur baths several times whilst living in Tbilisi and it gets better every time. Each room has a different layout and offers a different experience. The larger rooms also have steam room and sauna which is a plus. If you’re feeling brave, the cold sulphur baths are definitely worth a try as well. The traditional scrub is always a good idea, you really feel a difference afterwards! You can even enjoy some hot tea in the rooms. Bring a speaker to play music and relax!
So if you have not visited the Sulphur baths yet, I would definitely recommend!
Thank you for taking the time to read! Until next time.
